9 June 2014, IISD news - The Center for International Forestry  Research (CIFOR) has released the report of the first Global Landscapes Forum.  The report focuses on four themes: investing in sustainable landscapes,  landscape policy and governance, synergies between climate change mitigation and  adaptation, and landscapes for food security and nutrition.

The report describes a number of events held during the Forum, including the  cross-cutting session on 'Youth: the future of sustainable landscapes', the 'Gender Café', and an exhibition space for 31 organizations.

Together with regular sessions, these events contributed to the development  of 13 key messages outlined in the report. The messages focus on, inter  alia: the importance of applying the landscape approach to REDD+; the need  for stakeholder engagement, including with youth; indigenous peoples and local  communities; encouragement for the monitoring and evaluation of sectoral  interaction; and good governance for long-term investment.

The report also summarizes the Forum's virtual impact from a dedicated forum  website, a blog, an online newspaper, live-streaming of sessions, photos and  videos, and social media.

The Forum was convened from 16-17 November 2013, on the margins of the  Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change  (UNFCCC) in Warsaw, Poland. According to the report, more than 1,000  participants attended the Forum, which reached an additional 3.6 million people  through Twitter. Organizing sessions involved some 63 partners.
