8 April 2015, HD FestForest news - The European panel industry is making slow but steady improvements. This is according to new figures from the European Panel Federation, which have been reported by Fordaq.
Particleboard production increased by three per cent during 2014, while home sales were up one per cent.
For MDF, output levels were stable last year and exports grew by three per cent. Production was up three per cent for OSB panels.
Hardboard output was unchanged across the continent in 2014, while production of softboard was up six per cent. Home sales of the latter increased by one per cent, while exports were up 11 per cent.
Progress in the panel industry is good news for forestry, as any increase in demand will lead to greater desire for wood products.
The European wood panel industry currently has an annual turnover of roughly €22 billion.
